Enlarger's AI upscaling runs on your graphics chip using Vulkan, a graphics standard supported by virtually every GPU or iGPU (integrated on CPU) made in the last decade or so.
Not sure about your specific machine? You can look up your GPU or CPU in the community-run Vulkan Hardware Database and check whether it's listed as supporting Vulkan.
Intel Macs and Windows on ARM are not currently supported.

The instructions should be in your email next to your license. However, here they are again:
- Make sure you're connected to the internet
- Open Enlarger on your computer
- Go to Settings → click “Activate” tab
- Enter license key, give your device a name
- Click “Activate”
- Your default browser will open; just input the email you want to connect with your license
- When prompted, open the application
- The app will confirm activation and you’re good to go!
After activation, you do not need to be online to use the app.

Not seeing much of a difference, what's up?
Your image might have been resized "normally" to be bigger which introduces pixelation to the image. This is something that the program can't simply fix. Try to first resize it to be smaller (with Squoosh.app, GIMP or similar), save as .png and have another go.
Images should be viewed with a quality high resolution monitor. True difference can be best seen with the magnifier tool. If you are already enlarging a high resolution picture, the end result will not differ much more other than be bigger in size (if scale has been applied). However, it should be sharper and better than basic resizing in any non-AI/upscale focused image processing tool.
If you wish to make the effect bigger, you can ramp up AI strength and Sharpness to 4 and 4 respectively. Usually just adding the AI strength works, since sharper isn't always necessarily better.
The noise type setting changes on its own!
Not a bug, a feature! Enlarger tries to detect the correct noise amount based on the source pic. You can set a default selection in settings, if you prefer either one better than the other at all times.
What kind of information of me is being saved?
A hashed device identifier is stored from first use to track your trial. If you purchase, your email address and the device name you choose during activation are also stored to manage your license. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Is the application accessible or a11y compliant?
Our webshop and desktop applications have accessibility features. We can not guarantee 100% accessibility, but are committed to making our accessibility better across the services we provide. If you spot something, please contact us via the support form, we will try to fix it.
There is some sort of haziness/artifacts/tiles/odd thing going on with the output photo. Help?
There are some occurrences where the enlargement process might not work as well as you may wish:
- When an image has gone through multiple compression algorithms (let's say it has been first converted to JPG, then to WebP and lastly AVIF)
- The compression algorithms have been unconventional
- Image has been corrupted somewhere down the line
- Your hardware is very old (it can't handle the process gracefully)
If you see these kinds of symptoms in your output photos, we suggest one of the following (sorted from most efficient to least):
- Try to find the original image / less compressed version of an image
- Use the JPEG artifact reduction mode
- First downscale the photo -20%, save as png and then try to enlarge with the base settings
