A person who got tired of what upscaling software was doing to his photos.

I'm a 30-something full-stack developer from Finland. Before starting my career in tech, I spent a few years doing freelance design work, and photography has been a hobby of mine throughout the years. It's one of those things that quietly teaches you to notice light, color, and detail everywhere around you.

Over the years I went through most of the upscalers out there and kept hitting the same wall: models that invent detail that was never in the photo, textures gone waxy and over-smoothed, downloads that ask for tens of gigabytes before you've enlarged a single pixel. The result usually looks like a different photo, not a bigger version of the one I took.

For a while I just fixed things by hand: the same handful of steps, photo after photo. Eventually the developer in me got annoyed at repeating myself. I picked a small set of upscaling models I actually trusted, wired my usual fixes around them, and built a proper interface around it, simple enough that I wouldn't need notes to remember what any of it did.

The name is a nod to the darkroom, where an enlarger turned a negative into a print you could actually hang on a wall. This one does something similar for digital content that spent too long being compressed, resized, or just forgotten in an old folder.
